The Board of Directors of the LGMA approved a new Code of Ethics that took effect January 1, 2020 reflecting their direction that all members demonstrate the highest standards for ethical conduct and integrity in all public, professional, and personal relationships.

The LGMA Code of Ethics is mandatory and all members are asked to acknowledge that they will abide by the Code of Ethics when they complete membership renewal each year. In addition, all first-time members of the LGMA must complete two hours of mandatory ethics training in their first year. Training is complimentary.

Every LGMA member who is not a first-time member must complete two verifiable hours of ethics training every two years. There will be multiple options to complete those two hours, including through the LGMA and other associations and organizations. If you attend a CAO Forum, a Corporate Officer Forum, an Administrative Professionals Forum, a MATI course, the Annual Conference or a course delivered by another professional association, university, college or credited public institution on ethics, any ethics sessions hours will count towards your two hours of ethics training.

You will always have an online option as well to meet your requirement for two hours of training:  LGMA Ethics in Local Government on-demand online course

We would like to thank our dedicated volunteers for their contributions to development of this course: Mark Koch, Patti Bridal, Paul Murray, John Fortoloczky, Keeva Kehler, Adriana Proton, Diane Kalen-Sukra, Gabryel Joseph, Alberto De Feo, and Jerry Berry.

Another free option for one hour of ethics training is the BC Office of the Ombudsperson offering (Fairness 101).

In addition to training options, the LGMA has prepared an educational tool to assist you to navigate ethical challenges. The Practice Guidelines provide an overview of 12 key principles in the Code of Ethics, along with a statement of standards of conduct under each principle which help you see how it applies to your work.
