LGMA 2025 Wrapped!


As another successful year of LGMA training and professional development comes to a close, we’re looking back on some of the many achievements by the sector and the association in 2025! Collectively, you all logged countless hours of learning, levelled up your skills, and collaborated in networks to create more vibrant BC communities. Join us as we count down the hits and moments that made this year unforgettable, and wrap up a few LGMA statistics.

Training

 

From packed courses to dynamic virtual sessions, LGMA training continued to empower professionals across BC, including:


  • 1,873 hotel room nights booked across all LGMA programs and events
  • 1,600 registrations for events and training, including 220people who came to our Annual Conference
  • 23 educational offerings, in addition to on-demand programs, and complimentary webinars:
  • 12 online courses
  • 6 in-person events
  • 5 MATI Courses
  • 7 connect lunches

Members 


At the core of LGMA are our dedicated members. This year, your engagement, insights, and leadership helped strengthen the local government community across BC:


  • 1,288 members joined the LGMA, including 222 New Professionals
  • 62 features of members and staff photos on social media 
  • 10 members were each given $150 for being picked in the Membership Renewal Draw
  • 3 Member Spotlight features, including Heather Nelson-Smith, Doug Holmes, and Juli Halliwell

Programs and Resources


Throughout 2025, LGMA programs and resources continued to guide, inform, and support local government professionals across BC:


  • 275 volunteers gave a total of 2,438  hours this year
  • 104 pages of content published across 4 issues of Exchange Magazine
  • We launched some new programs and resources this year, including:
  • Introducing cohorts to multiple programs to allow for more registration,
  • The re-launch of the Elections Training On-Demand course,
  • IDEA On-Demand course,
  • Update to the 3 Records and Information Management On-Demand programs,
  • Complimentary FOI-Privacy-Records and Information Management Resources, and
  • Updated Corporate Officers Handbook

LGMA Internship Program


This year saw the re-launch of the LGMA Internship Program for the first time in 13 years! We saw:


  • 250 students engage in discussions around careers in local government at in-person events
  • 5 LGMA Interns and 1 NDIT intern actively engage in meaningful work in a 12-month internship
  • 6 communities agree to host interns and support their local government capacity

LGMA Staff


Behind every program, event, and resource is a dedicated team working hard to support BC’s local government professionals:


  • 2 new employees were hired at the LGMA, as well as seeing Ana Fuller retired after over 20 years of service
  • In the LGMA staff group chat, we shared:
  • 47 gifs,
  • 25 pet photos,
  • 72 selfies and other photos.
  • Dozens of coffee runs
  • 4 official office pet days
  • 1 tropical shirt day with a staff lunch
  • Too many cups of coffee and morning chats to count.

Conference


From inspiring keynote speakers to packed breakout sessions, this year’s conferences brought the sector together in unforgettable ways:


  • 220 professionals gathered for three days of learning
  • 70 speakers shared their expertise
  • 30 booths filled the tradeshow floor
  • 15 awards honouring outstanding members
  • Gallons of coffee consumed
