Special Committee to Review the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
January 27, 2010
A Special Committee of the Legislature was established in October 2009 to conduct a review of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA). The Committee will report to the House by May 31, 2010 with its findings, which may include recommendations for amendments to the Act. The Committee has requested written or oral submissions from organizations and private individuals. The deadline for submissions has been extended to March 15, 2010.
The LGMA's FOIPPA/ Records Sub-committee is preparing another joint submission this year and would like to solicit written comments or recommendations from its membership. Comments and recommendations may be emailed to: paul.hancock@vancouver.ca by Friday, February 19.
The FOIPPA/ Records Sub-committee reserves the right to edit your comments or recommendations for length and appropriate language. The LGMA submission will be made on behalf of the LGMA as a whole, and comments and recommendations will not be attributed back to individual local governments. The fact that the LGMA is making a submission does not preclude individual local governments from making their own submissions if they wish to do so.
The Special Committee to Review the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act will sit on the following dates and times in the Douglas Fir Committee Room, Parliament Buildings to continue its inquiry and to accommodate the appearance of witnesses:
