The Local Government Management Association is pleased to announce that new editions of the following three manuals/guides are now available for purchase:
- 2012 Records
Management Manual, Fourth Edition
- 2012 Freedom
of Information and Protection of Privacy Act Toolkit, Second Edition
- 2012 Guide
for Approving Officers, Fifth Edition
All three manuals/guides will be printed and shipped in the first quarter of 2012.
The Records Management Manual, fourth edition includes new categories and subjects added to reflect the business of local government. This edition began as an update to legal and regulatory requirements, but evolved into a major new edition with information about emerging technologies for information creation, including mobile devices, social media sites, cloud computing for information storage, and the impact of these technologies on local government record keeping practices. Within the model classification and records retention schedule, the retention of non-legal requirements have been streamlined in order to facilitate the storage and removal of electronic records. In addition, the classification and retention schedule and a legal citation index are updated and current to December 31, 2011, incorporating all statutory changes in British Columbia.
The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act Toolkit, second edition is a significant rewrite and reorganization and incorporates current legislation and regulations and best practices information. This edition expands on information pertaining to protection of privacy and includes new chapters on new and emerging issues such as FOIPPA in the Digital World, FOIPPA and records management, and Personnel and Personal Information. Each chapter includes best practices and cautionary tales, and questions and answers. The appendices have been greatly expanded to include practical pull out flowcharts, checklists, sample lists and worksheets. The second edition includes cross references to other sources of information relating to freedom of information and protection of privacy for local government practitioners.
The Guide for Approving Officers, fifth edition is the third major revision to the Guide since it was first published in 1994. This new edition is a significant rewrite and reorganization of the material that improves readability and flow of information. The edition incorporates current legislation and regulations, court decisions and best practices information as well as cross references to other sources of information for approving officers.
