LGMA Manuals for Sale

2017 Board of Variance Manual now available for purchase

Boards of Variance are an integral part of the local government land use management system established in the Local Government Act. Local governments must appoint a Board of Variance to deal with specific applications to vary a zoning bylaw on the grounds of hardship. It is critical that members of the Board of Variance have a good understanding of their role and responsibility.

This informative Guide will assist Board of Variance members to conduct their responsibilities in accordance with the statutory requirements, along with providing both members and local government senior administrators with a better understanding of good board procedures, review practices, and judicial appeal procedures. In addition, the Guide provides examples and practical suggestions, a glossary of terms and sample cases to further support the work of Boards of Variance.
