Distinguished Members Legacy Fund

Background
The Local Government Management Association, in partnership with the Vancouver Foundation has established the Distinguished Members Legacy Fund as a way for friends and colleagues to recognize the achievement of LGMA members who have passed away, retired, or have made extraordinary contributions to the field of local government in British Columbia.

Established as an educational scholarship fund, the Legacy Fund has been set up as a registered charity to enable donors to receive a tax deduction for contributions.

Honour Roll
If a contribution of $500 or more is made specifically in the name of an honoured member the member's name, along with a personal biography will be included on the Honour Roll [PDF - 65 KB]

If you are making a contribution to the Distinguished Members Legacy Fund and requesting recognition for a member on the Honour Roll please send a photo along with a summary on the member's career, achievements and significant contributions in the field of local government to a maximum of 300 words.

Donations
Donations to the fund may be made payable to the "Vancouver Foundation - LGMA Distinguished Members Legacy Fund" and forwarded to the Local Government Management Association, 7th Floor - 620 View Street, Victoria, BC, V8W 1J6.

To apply for the Scholarship
The purpose of the Distinguished Members Legacy Fund Scholarship is to encourage students with an interest in local government management and administration to pursue post-secondary opportunities. A scholarship is available to assist students who have a demonstrated interest in local government public service and who are accepted or are registered in a course of studies at an accredited post-secondary institution. Both full time and part time students are eligible to apply, making the scholarship available to individuals currently working in local government.

Each Fall the Vancouver Foundation will award one or more scholarships to applicants. Upon award of scholarship, funds will be paid directly as a voucher to the specified post-secondary institution to pay for tuition and texts costs. Scholarship applications must be submitted to the LGMA for consideration no later than 4:30 pm, September 30th of the current year. Scholarship applicants will be notified by October 31st.

The Scholarship shall be for one year and in the amount of up to $1,000 to be provided to the successful candidate as a voucher to the specified post-secondary institution upon proof of registration.
