LGMA and GFOA have partnered to provide support for senior administrators who are responsible for managing their local government procurement practices. In response to the recommendations for capital and operational procurement from the Auditor General for Local Government, a Procurement Toolkit, First Edition 2016, has been created to provide practical tools such as samle bylaws, policies, forms and procedures to assist local governments in their procurement practices.

In addition to the Procurement Toolkit, a series of four webinars on the technical requirements for leading edge practices in procurement has been developed by procurement specialist, Ms. Cris Munro, SCMP, CPSM, CPM.

Cost is: $250+GST base rate. Pricing structure options are available and include the Procurement Toolkit.

 Electronic Documents and Records Management

    • Wednesday, October 26, 2016, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. (includes lunch) Tigh-Na-Mara, Parksville, BC

This workshop is being offered to anyone who works with electronic documents and records management. It is being held as a pre-conference workshop at Clerks and Corporate Officers Forum but is open to anyone to attend. This full day workshop walks delegates through the high-level planning of an EDRMS, then dives into its implementation, covering a range of tactical and practical topics.

Cost is $250+GST LGMA Member or $275+GST non Member

Registration is part of Clerks and Corporate Officer Forum. Just select the workshop separately. Registration deadline is October 19, 2016.


The business of record keeping for local governments is an enduring mandate. Local governments are required to manage their recorded information in ways that promote transparency and openness and must make records accessible to the public in accordance with provincial legislation. The 2015 updated LGMA Records Management Manual 4th Edition, 2012, provides general records and information guidance to staff in local government organizations. The LGMA is pleased to offer a one day Records Management Workshop, using the Manual as the foundation for the workshop, and how it can its use can be maximized for your local government organization.

Participants are encouraged to bring along their printed or electronic copy of the 2015 updated LGMA REcords Management Manual 4th Edition, 2012. Copies of the manual may be purchased at http://www.civicinfo.bc.ca/event/2015/RecordsManual.asp

In partnership with Young Anderson, LGMA is offering this one-day workshop for Board of Variance members and senior administrators in local government who are responsible for their Boards of Variance.

A local government’s Board of Variance plays an important and significant role in local government land use decisions in BC. This workshop, led by legal experts Bill Buholzer, Alyssa Bradley, and Guy Patterson, will assist Board of Variance members to conduct their responsibilities in accordance with the statutory requirements, along with providing both members and local government senior administrators with a better understanding of good board procedures, review practices, and judicial appeal procedures.

LGMA is pleased to offer this special three day comprehensive and interactive workshop on managing local government grievances and arbitrations. Led by renowned labour negotiator and skilled facilitator Mohamed Doma, this three day workshop will highlight the considerations of what you need to know before you take a grievance to arbitration.

For CAOs, Corporate Officers, Human Resource Managers and other exempt senior managers, who need to know the ins and outs of local government grievances and arbitrations.  This session will be held in Vancouver at the Marriott Pinnacle Downtown.

Cost is $899 per registrant plus GST.

2016 Webinars

This course is designed for staff who have little knowledge or experience with FOIPP practices.

This three hour, interactive webinar will walk participants through a presentation designed to provide a basic introduction to local government staff on the law and best practices pertaining to freedom of information and protection of privacy (FOIPP). No prior knowledge of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act is required for this session.
