Nominate for Executive Positions

Each year, nominations for Directors of the Local Government Management Association of BC are invited by the Board of Directors Governance Committee and will be received up to and including the final call at the Annual General Meeting; for 2019, this will be Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 11:30 am, at the Westin Bayshore Vancouver Hotel. 
The value of early nomination is that candidate information will be distributed to members in advance of the AGM, as well as in registration packages for delegates attending the AGM and Annual Conference. 
  • President   (1-year term)
  • Vice President   (1-year term)
  • Treasurer   (1-year term)
  • Director at Large   (TWO positions, 2-year term).
Nominations are encouraged from individuals with the following attributes:
  • strategic thinking;
  • leadership skills;
  • relationship-building expertise;
  • previous Board experience (other Associations, Chapters). 
The year, the Board would welcome candidates with functional expertise in Human Resources, to align with stategic priorities of the Association.
The time commitment for Board members includes one day every quarter for travel and participation at Board meetings, and up to three hours per month for support to Board Committees and Association events. See: Duties of Officers and Directors

Please note: The Committee will be circulating candidate information in advance of the Annual General Meeting, as well as via Conference delegate packages. To ensure information is distributed in advance, this must be submitted by May 24.
In accordance with LGMA Bylaws, the process to direct nominations is as follows:  
  1. To Governance Committee is responsbile for Board renewal and ensures Board nominating procedures are conducted effectively, and in accordance with the bylaws of the Association. The process is led by the immediate Past-President.
  2. The Governance Committee will solicit nominations from the general membership of the Association and shall report to the Annual General Meeting of the Association in each year.
  3. A member who wishes to be considered as a candidate must be nominated by at least two Regular or Life Members in good standing. 
  4. It is the duty of the Governance Committee to ensure competitive elections for the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Director at Large. 
  5. The Governance Committee willcirculate information on all candidates to the membership in advance of the Annual General Meeting, and the immediate Past President, on behalf of the Governance Committee, will formally report on the Nominations at the Annual General Meeting to be held in conjunction with the Annual Conference.
  6. A formal call for further nominations for each vacant position shall take place at the Annual General Meeting. The Returning Officer shall be responsible for overseeing any polling that may be required to fill the positions, in accordance with the Bylaws of the Association.
  7. In the event that multiple candidates cannot be identified for the positions as outlined in #4 above, it will be a minimum default position for the Governance Committee to recommend at least one candidate for each vacant position in each year.
