Annual Conference & AGM

The LGMA holds its Annual General Meeting and conference in May or June each year. The conference is held in various locations across the province to reflect the geographically diverse membership. Each year a local organizing committee works with the Association to prepare a program that provides numerous educational sessions on current issues and thought-provoking keynote speakers as well as networking opportunities for members.

Notice of Special Resolution of the Local Government Management Association of British Columbia (the ‘Society’)

The Province of BC has passed the new BC Society Act in force, which governs non-profit societies like the Local Government Management Association (LGMA). In 2015, LGMA made changes to ensure its bylaws were in compliance with the BC Societies Act.  LGMA reserved the decision to be a designated member-funded society, which is a society that is primarily funded by its members to carry on activities for the benefit of its members. A special resolution will be proposed for approval at the Annual General Meeting to be held on May 17, 2017 to confirm the LGMA as a member-funded society.

PROPOSED RESOLUTION FOR APPROVAL BY THE MEMBERSHIP AT THE MAY 17, 2017 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

WHEREAS under the Societies Act the Society qualifies as a member-funded society and may obtain this status by amending its constitution to insert the following statutorily prescribed clause into its constitution, which amendment must be approved by its members by special resolution;

THEREFORE, IT IS RESOLVED as special resolutions that the Constitution of the Society be amended by inserting the following as new paragraph 3, immediately after the provisions of paragraph 2:

“This society is a member-funded society. It is funded primarily by its members to carry on activities for the benefit of its members. On its liquidation or dissolution, this society may distribute its money and other property to its members.”

Annual Conference: Typically the annual conference will have upwards of 400 delegates although that number has reached 500 in some years.

The conference features an excellent tradeshow opportunity for suppliers providing products and services to the local government sector.
