Date:  22 March, 2019

In 2018, 6,000 jobs were posted to the BC Local Government Job Board, the most in any year since CivicInfo BC and the Local Government Management Association (LGMA) partnered on the service in 2001.

Managed by CivicInfo BC and the Local Government Management Association, the Job Board helps B.C. local governments advertise jobs and find talented professionals with an interest in helping their communities. In the past four years the number of jobs posted to the Job Board has doubled. On average, the Job Board has experienced 16% growth year-over-year, illustrating the increased roles of local governments and their respective growth over a short period of time.

Across the province more than 60,000 people are employed by local governments. Fueled in large part by the increasing needs of local governments, the demand for skilled labour is expected to continue to grow over time.

Quotes

“In addition to the increase in posting volume, it is interesting to see specializations emerging in the local government space. It shows how the role of local governments continues to evolve, leading to increased roles and responsibilities and a growing demand for more specific, specialized labour.  We are pleased to partner with the LGMA on this service.”

Alberto De Feo, President of CivicInfo BC

To help promote careers in local government to new entrants to the profession, the LGMA is working to promote the Making Life Happen campaign – a collaboration between local government support organizations across Canada to encourage Millennials and Generation Z to consider rewarding careers in local government.

“Careers in local government offer dynamic opportunities for a variety of skillsets, I am proud that the LGMA can contribute to the continued success of our profession.”

Mark Koch, President of the LGMA
