BC Transit Financial Sustainability Sessions

As you are aware, BC Transit is facing a need for considerable investment in transit services and infrastructure to meet local government and provincial objectives. At the same time, local governments are increasingly pressured to contain property taxes.

To discuss long term financial issues and strategies with local government CAOs and CFOs, BC Transit is hosting 5 regional workshops across the province. These workshops will be held in conjunction with Local Government Management Association conferences where possible to make them accessible to most senior local government officials.

Senior BC Transit management will be in attendance to hear your concerns and challenges regarding the future financial sustainability of your transit function. Building from the discussions we held with many of you in our sessions at our last BC Transit Conference we would also like to get your valuable feedback on areas such as:

  • Existing Governance and Funding Model
  • Asset Management
    • Background: acquisition, ownership, leasing and financing
    • Fleet, Facilities, IT, Transit Infrastructure (park and rides, exchanges, bus stops)
    • Risks, Issues, Mitigation (capital approval process, reserves)
  • Cost Drivers and Strategies
  • Financial and Performance Reporting
  • Other

The intent of the workshop is to enable a free ranging, informal discussion focused on developing a common understanding and action plan.

Tom Day, Director Strategic Partnerships is coordinating these workshops. Please contact him at your convenience with any questions regarding the workshop: tom_day@bctransit.com

Please review the attached schedule and confirm your attendance at any of these sessions with Linda Moss: linda_moss@bctransit.com
